Claims that in between Chion/Schaeffer's polarity of reduced listening and causal listening exists a contimuum of aural imagery or sonic ambiguity. The lsitener is allowed her own interpretation and the sound may never be "nailed to the diegesis". Talking mainly of film sound but relates to games. cf.
