p.171   A reminder that sound could not be recorded/stored (unlike image) until the latter quarter of the C19th. The science and theorizing of sound is a relatively new subject and younger than that of image - the reason why sound theory often uses terminology borrowed from visual science.   Added by: Mark Grimshaw-Aagaard
