Abstract |
"The third wave of virtuality began in 2015 with the commercial release of several consumer products. Virtual Reality experiences in the 2016 Oculus headset, such as Ocean Rift, suggest developments beyond the experimental and aesthetic waves of previous decades. The broader significance of immersion offers new avenues for software applications of contemporary spirituality from Eckhart Tolle to Zen Buddhism. The paper applies the model of lucid dreaming to immersive VR experiences and outlines the more advanced paradigm of lucid living to suggest ways of enhancing virtuality. The active creation of an immersion log is presented as one way of adding a spiritual dimension to VR technology."
