Notes
A popular article dealing with auditory brainstem implants -- useful as an example imprecise definitions of sound (or confusing use of such).
The implant is placed in the wall of the lateral recess of the fourth ventricle in the area where the axons (nerve fibres) and cochlear nucleus (synapses)—which transport sounds picked up by the ear to the cerebral cortex—are found. - See more at: http://lobe.ca/en/non-classee/hearing-without-ears-auditory-brainstem-implant/#.VdQuvbfGam4
