Abstract |
"This paper argues for a widening of the concept of musical imagery as a process that goes along with perception rather than being merely autonomous. Imagery, in fact, can be considered as providing a connecting structure that brings together the discrete successions of the articulation through time. This claim is confronted with several epistemological paradigms, stressing the role of the listener and his/her listening strategies rather than the music as an ontological category. Central in this listener-centered approach is the role of embodied and enactive cognition and the transition the listener can make from mere sensorimotor processing to ideomotor simulation of the sound."
